Thomas Moore (1779 - 1852), was born
in Dublin and was educated at Whyte’s School. He was an Irish poet. His patriotic
enthusiasm is well expressed in this poem. He also written a poem on an

The poem “The
Minstrel Boy”, is pure patriotic poem. The title and the theme shows, that the

written this poem with a firm grip toward the subject. The poem “The Minstrel
Boy” is expressing sorrow on the death of the Minstrel Boy and praising him due

of some dear one and praising the qualities of the lost one.

sound creates a sorrowful, sighing atmosphere in the whole poem. The poet

the technique of extended metaphors to relate the similarity between two

of a musician boy with his father’s sword around his waist and his rustic harp

harp, were for freedom and love and these should be sung in slavery and occupied
territory.
