HOOKE'S LAW Introduction In physics, Hooke's Law is one of the fundamental principles governing how objects deform under external forces . Named after the 17th-century British physicist Robert Hooke, this law provides a crucial understanding of the behavior of elastic materials, such as springs and rubber bands. Whether stretching a rubber band or compressing a spring, Hooke's Law helps explain what happens when forces act on these materials. What is Hooke's Law: Hooke's Law states that the force F needed to extend or compress a spring by some distance x is proportional to that distance. Mathematically, it is expressed as: F= -kx Here k represents the spring constant, which is the measure of the stiffness of the spring, and x is the displacement from the displacement position. The negative sign indicates that the force exerted by the spring is in the opposite direction of the displacement. Understanding the Spring Constant: The spring constant k is a critical co

PASSAGE 01:
A team of researchers has found that immunizing patients with bee venom rather than the crushed bodies of bees can better prevent serious and sometime fatal sting reaction in more than one million Americans who are hypersensitive to bee stings. The crushed body treatment has been standard for fifty year, but a report released recently is said that it was ineffective. The serum made from crashed bodies of bees produced more adverse reaction than the injection of venom did.
The research compared the results of crushed body treatment with the results of immunotherapy, that uses insect venom and also compared with the results of placebo. After six or ten months of immunization, allergic reactions to stings occur in seven of twelve patients treated with the placebo, seven of ten with crushed body extract and one of the eighteen treated with the venom.
1. What is the main topic of the passage
a. A new treatment for people allergic to bee stings
b. A more effective method of preventing bee strings
c. The use of placebos in treating hypersensitive patients
d. Bee venom causing fatal reactions in hypersensitive patients
2. According to the researchers, the traditional treatment of bee stings is
a. Widespread
b. Extremely harmful
c. Almost useful
d. Sensitizing
3. The number of patients who took part in experiments described was
a. Twelve
b. Forty two
c. Twenty four
d. Eighteen
4. The most successful treatment described in the passage was a serum prepared from
a. Blood of patients who had been stung
b. Poison extracted from bees
c. Crushed bodies of bees
d. A placebo and a crushed body extract
5. It can be inferred that in order to be successful, the treatment referred to in the passage must be administered
a. By the series of injections given before the patient is exposed
b. By injection immediately after the patient has been stung
c. Orally for six to to ten weeks before the patient is stung
d. Orally immediately after the patient is stung
PASSAGE 02:
The development of Jamestown in Virginia during the second half of the seventeenth century was closely related to making and use of bricks. There are several practical reasons why bricks became most important in colony.
Although the forest could initially supply sufficient timber, the process of lumbering was extremely difficult, particularly because of lack of roads. Later, when the timber on the peninsula had been depleted, wood had to be brought from some distance. Building stone was also in short supply. However as clay was plentiful, it was inevitable that the colonists would turn on brick making.
6. What is the subject of the passage?
a. The reason of brick making in Jamestown
b. The cause of the failure of Jamestown
c. The problems of the early American colonies
7. In the first half of the 1600's most of the buildings in Jamestown were probably made up of
a. Earth b. Wood c. Stone d. Bricks
8. Which of the following was not the reason for using bricks in construction
a. The wood had to be brought from some distance
b. There was considerable clay available
c. The lumbering process dependent on good roads.
d. The timber was not of good quality.
PASSAGE 03:
Prices determines how resources should be used. They are also the means by which products and services that are in limited supply are rationed among buyers. The price system of the United States is a very complex network composed of the prices of all the products bought and sold in economy as well as those of myriads of services \, including labor, professional, transportation and public-unity services. The interrelationships of all these prices makes up "System of prices". The price of any particular product or service is linked to a broad, complicated system of prices in which everything seem to depend more or less upon everything else.
9. What is the best title for the passage
a. The inherent Weakness of the Price System
b. The complexities of the price system
c. Credit terms in Transactions
d. Resources Allocation and the Public Sector
10. According to the passage, the price system is related primarily to
a. Labor and Education b. Transportation and Insurance
c. Utilities and repairs d. Products and Services
